Extending the residence permit

The application for the residence permit extension needs to be submitted to the police station of your place of residence. At the police station you need to fill out the Residence Permit application form.

To extend your residence in Finland, the application has to be submitted to the police at the latest on the day when the validity of your current residence permit ends. However, the extension application can be submitted already 3 months before the current permit expires.

Addresses of local police stations:

resident in Espoo or Kauniainen:
Nihtisillankuja 4, tel. 09-525 4222 or 09-5254223, information number 09-525 4739 open between 9am and 11am, and 1pm and 3pm. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4.15 pm, Thursdays 8 am to 5.15 pm (Thursdays 8 am to 4.15 pm between June 1 and August 31).
In Espoo the Police do not answer to inquiries, they will send a letter to you when the permit has been granted.

resident in Helsinki:
Viljatie 2, tel. (09) 189 4380. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4.15 pm, Wednesdays 8 am to 5.30 pm (Wednesdays 8 am to 4.15 pm between appr. June 20 and July 31).
In Helsinki you can inquire from the police if your extended permits has been granted. Helsinki Police will also send a letter to you when the permits have been granted.

resident in Jyv?skyl?:
Urhonkatu 1, tel. 014-3135 105, 014-3135 114 or 014-3135 115. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4.15 pm.
In Jyv?skyl? the police will give you an estimate of the date when your extended permits will be granted. After the date in question, you can inquire from the police if your permits have been granted.

resident in Oulu:
Rata-aukio 2, tel. 08-3137 469. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 6.15 pm.
In Oulu the police Police will send a letter to you when the permits has been granted.

resident in Salo:
Kirkkokatu 1-3, tel. 02-7751 567, 02-7751 568 or 02-7751 569. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 6.15 pm.
In Salo the police will give you an estimate of the date when your extended permits will be granted. After the date in question, you can inquire from the police if your permits have been granted.

resident in Tampere:
Hatanp??n valtatie 16, tel. 03-2195 142. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4.15 pm, Thursdays 8 am to 5 pm.
In Tampere the police will give you an estimate of the date when your extended permits will be granted. After the date in question, you can inquire from the police if your permits have been granted.

resident in Turku:
Eerikinkatu 40-42, tel. 02-281 5044. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4.15 pm.
In Turku the police will give you an estimate of the date when your extended permits will be granted. After the date in question, you can inquire from the police if your permits have been granted.

resident in Vantaa:
Kielotie 21, tel. 09-87 30463. Open Monday to Friday 8 am to 4.15 pm
In Vantaa the Police do not send you a letter to you when the permit has been granted, instead you have to inquire from the police if your extended permits have been granted. The calling hour is Monday to Friday 9 am to 11 am.

Students, minors 50 €
Decision on a permanent residence card to EU citizens, their relatives or other relatives 40 €
Decision on a residence card to EU citizens' family members or other relatives who are not EU citizens 40 €
Registering the right of residence of EU citizens and comparable persons 40 €
Permit decision (other than those mentioned above) 100 €
